1 John 1:1-4 (NLT)   A FIRST HAND REPORT¹
 We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.
²  This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.
³  We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
⁴  We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.
WE TEND TO FORGET WHEN WE READ THE BIBLE THE AUTHORS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT HAD A FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS.
THEY KNEW HIM
THEY SAW HIM IN ACTION
THEY WROTE ABOUT WHAT THEY SAW AND KNEW
BELIEVE IT, AND ENJOY IT
WE ALL NEED A FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE WITH JESUS

¹⁵  And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
¹⁶  As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
¹⁷  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

 This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory.
²  I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.

³  Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.

²⁰  And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before.
²¹  It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.
²²  They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”

¹⁸  They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.

¹³  Their destruction is their reward for the harm they have done. They love to indulge in evil pleasures in broad daylight. They are a disgrace and a stain among you. They delight in deception even as they eat with you in your fellowship meals.
¹⁴  They commit adultery with their eyes, and their desire for sin is never satisfied. They lure unstable people into sin, and they are well trained in greed. They live under God’s curse.
¹⁵  They have wandered off the right road and followed the footsteps of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong.
¹⁶  But Balaam was stopped from his mad course when his donkey rebuked him with a human voice.

These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.
